The St. Alban Quarter, in Basel-German called "Dalbe", is a district of the city of Basel, situated in Grossbasel on the southeastern outskirts. The bordering regions are a.o. Breite (St. Alban-Teich), Bruderholz (Reinacherstrasse), Am Ring (Elisabethenanlage) and the two suburbs St. Alban-Anlage and Aeschengraben.
Das St. Alban Quartier, auf Baseldeutsch "Dalbe" genannt, liegt im Grossbasel am südöstlichen Stadtrand. Es grenzt u.a. an die Quartiere Breite (St. Alban-Teich), Bruderholz (Reinacherstrasse), Am Ring (Elisabethenanlage), sowie an die zwei Vorstädte St. Alban-Anlage und Aeschengraben.
The Environment Die Umgebung
The St. Alban quarter is considered the most distinguished and greenest district of Basel. In former times, as well as today most of the members of the noble and wealthy "Altbasler" families reside in this district. Other names for the residents of the St. Alban-quarters are "Dalbanese" or "Dalb(l)emer".
Das St. Alban-Quartier gilt als vornehmster und grünster Stadtteil von Basel. In diesem Stadtteil wohnten früher wie heute die meisten Angehörigen der vornehmen und wohlhabenden Altbasler Familien. Weitere Bezeichnungen für die Bewohner des St. Alban-Quartiers sind "Dalbanese" oder "Dalb(l)emer".
The St. Alban quarter is named after the former St. Alban monastery, foundet in the year 1083. Here also we find the St. Alban's Church (Dalbekirche), the St. Alban Gate (Dalbedoor) and the last piece of the Walls (14th century) of Basel at the St. Alban-Tal (Dalbeloch) at the bank of the Rhine. Trough the St. Alban quarter, which in the southeast borders on the Birs river, flows the Canal St. Alban pond.
Das St. Alban Quartier ist nach dem ehemaligen St. Alban-Kloster, gegründet im Jahr 1083, benannt. Hier befindet sich auch die St. Alban-Kirche (Dalbekirche), das St. Alban-Tor (Dalbedoor) sowie das letzte Stück der Basler Stadtmauer aus dem 14. Jahrhundert im St. Alban-Tal (Dalbeloch) beim Rheinufer. Durch das St. Alban Quartier, welches im Südosten an die Birs grenzt, fliesst der Kanal St. Alban-Teich (Dalbedyych).
